From sardine spit to radio: the works threaten the summer in the Malaga neighborhood of Pedregalejo

Normal, chubby, special, French omelette or, among others, Roquefort with anchovies. The camperos from the Mafalda hamburger restaurant are among the most famous sandwiches in the entire city of Malaga. The establishment opened in 1985 and, since then, has fed several generations. Queues were common almost daily until the arrival, last March, of the works on the Pedregalejo promenade: the square where its terrace is located was completely raised as part of these works and there is only a narrow corridor to access the premises, with no tables inside. They were told that it would only be three weeks, so they decided to close that time, but everything is still going on outside and they, without being able to serve their clients. “They have barely done anything in these months and it is impossible to open,” explains Herminia Salido, who at 56 years old has been linked to the family business for 40 years. «I am overwhelmed by the employees. I will put two candles to the Virgin of Carmen so that, at least, we can open in August,» says the woman. Continue reading
