The code of ethics on the use of AI defined in Venezuela establishes 9 basic principles. From the ministry, they urged the document to be disseminated. The Ministry of Popular Power for Science and Technology of Venezuela presented on February 19 the Code of Ethics for the Development and Responsible Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI). According to the document, its objective is to guide the use of this technology. In the nuncio, the ministry invited actors in the Venezuelan scientific and academic field to adopt this framework. In addition, he urged the population to consult and disseminate the document. The document establishes 9 principles for the use of AIwhose names are: Humanistic Artificial Intelligence; Equity, Equality and Non-Discrimination; Environmental Responsibility; Security, Privacy; Transparency; Accountability; Open Science; and Excellence. «These principles are not mere recommendations, but practical imperatives that must be integrated at every stage, from design and development to production.
implementation and use of AI systems”, highlights the code. For now, It is unknown if this code of ethics may imply changes to the current use of AI in Venezuela at a legal level. However, the mandatory clarification suggests the possibility of responses from the authorities in case a statute is not being carried out.

What do the 9 principles of the AI code in Venezuela say?

The principle called «Humanistic Artificial Intelligence» establishes that AI must be at the service of human beings and the integral development of society. Regarding what it calls Equity, Equality and Non-Discrimination, it provides that AI systems must be designed to avoid biases that reproduce social, economic, cultural or gender inequalities. demands constant monitoring to prevent automated decisions let him take care of that. Under the angle of Environmental Responsibility, it promotes the development of sustainable technologies in the life cycle of AI systems. According to him, the efficient use of resources and the reduction of the carbon footprint must continue. This taking into account that AI has been accused of consuming alarming amounts of water for the cooling system of the hardware on which they operate. From the Security sphere, it warns that this technology must guarantee the integrity, confidentiality and availability of the processed data. In addition, the Privacy principle clarifies that this must require informed consent from users to collect and use their personal data. In this context, the CEO of OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, Sam Altman, has asked that they not share their personal data with AI. At the same time, the Transparency section requests that the processes, algorithms and decisions associated with these systems must be clear, understandable and explainable. Regarding Accountability, it determines that always There must be a human responsible for AI decisions. This responsibility includes developers, operators and users. Therefore, it leaves in doubt that AIs that self-replicate or AI creating AI will not be admitted in ethics, an example that we recently reported in BitcoinDynamic. From the point of view of Open Science, it promotes scientific cooperation, the exchange of knowledge and access to research related to artificial intelligence. Finally, the statute of Technological Sovereignty emphasizes the need to strengthen national capacities in infrastructure, talent and technological production.

The code arrives due to the growing use of AI

The arrival of this code in Venezuela takes place amid the growing development and use of AI globally. As BitcoinDynamic reported, the cryptocurrency ecosystem has not been exempt from this panorama. From the creation of new tools through this technology to its integration into exchanges for trading, artificial intelligence is changing the cryptocurrency sector, in correlation with other areas of humanity. In this sense, the possibility is not ruled out that AI tools in Venezuelan territory, both within and outside the field of cryptocurrencies, can be protected under this code of ethics.
