The president of the Bodega Emilio Moro, Javier Moro Espinosa (Pesquera de Duero, Valladolid, 60 years), is defined as a marathon corridor: the vineyards that his grandfather planted on the banks of the Duero began working. He sold a lot of wine (he was a commercial director of the winery for 33 years) and has taken his bottles to 70 countries. Now, after a family separation that has led his brother José, previous president, to undertake a new solo project, says that the family is more united than ever around the Ribera del Duero winery. Question. Are you more white or red? It depends, I like to start with a target and end with red. Do you like to cook? R. Much.p. And what kitchen? R. Everything, I am an excellent barbecue, an excellent paellero … I start stewing anything in a very traditional plan, thinking about the dishes my mother made. One of my pleasures is to eat. I would not work the same, or it would not be the same, if it were not to enjoy a meal. I live to eat. The last restaurant that caught your attention? R. I like the Michelin star, but you can't be in them all day for a thousand reasons, apart from the economy. It is not a kitchen for every day. I have recently been in the Mirador tower, in the restaurant of a friend of mine in Costa Adeje (Santa Cruz de Tenerife) that is always full. The Coque Restaurant (Madrid) was a discovery: they took you to different parts for an experience in each environment. Do you like to make the purchase? R. Now, due to the position that I occupy, I have a very tight agenda. I can no longer buy according to what things to cook. Before, with the pandemic, I was almost more famous on Instagram, so I cooked and announced that for the wine … my stews, my rice. He is also an athletics fan. In the last marathon I hurt my back and I had to stop eight months, because I had several vertebrae. It is in a serious plan. Yes, you have to prepare, you have to leave at least five days a week. Make a series, another cardio, roll … to get to the marathon and not suffer. I wanted to do the last marathon in three and a half hours, which is a good brand for an older man like me. Half marathons I have done many. When you finish it is a unique satisfaction. That is: «I have run 42 kilometers.» After the first one I did in Seville I began to cry. I was injured from the knee, by kilometer 25, and I said: I can't stop. Do you have a lot of capacity for suffering? R. The thing is [el entorno] It takes you … There are 25,000 people running. The kilometers are going through and they take you, it is a total drug. I guess sport also helps you mentally. A lot. What dismisses me the most of everything is skiing. To me to lie down in a hammock I do not dismantle me.p. I would say that he is at a time of his life … r. Very sweet. A little stressed in recent months for work, for travel. From here to summer there are many presentations, fairs, but I am really happy because now the whole family is involved in the winery [su hermano José se desvinculó del proyecto y ha creado su propia empresa, Cepa 21]. The fourth generation is hitting strong. Do surnames open doors? R. We have won the last names. This winery began to be famous under everyone's effort. When we started building the commercial winery, in the year 89, with my father, we worked in Valladolid. I got up at five in the morning, worked from six in the morning to two, and in the afternoon we went to fish to plant vineyards, to move, to sell … p. Do you like music? R. I like it, sometimes at meals we end up singing. My father was an excellent singer, and we had little sang. I play hearing, pachangueras songs, and if I find someone to follow me … once a year they come to the celler. Last year we did an event with a boy. I really like ranchers. Is it one of those who devour the series? R. I like them, but then I don't remember what they are called. What advice would you have given you in your life? R. I have not been a good student, but I am a very hustied person, I know how to surround good people. Yes I would have liked that they would have taken more from me. Now I am 60 years old. At the time when I went to school, in fishing, you were limited. As I have been a bit rebellious … I would have liked someone to take me. I have been lucky to be surrounded by good people and I have learned a lot from the street. And to his two daughters, what advice he gives? R. Let us be humble, workers, honest with work, and that humility has to be above all. Not only to say it, but be consistent. Many people say one thing and practice another. You have to love people who are with us, and that education I want to give it to my daughters. You have to be normal, accessible to everyone. Do you think the saying that money changes you is true? Personally, nothing has changed me. He was happy when he was going to sell wine in a C-15 with a good meal and taking out the guitar on party nights. With money and without money, I always do what I want, as the song says.
