ZCash, the cryptocurrency recognized for its approach to privacy, announced the withdrawal of its original base code, ZCASHD, scheduled for this year, 2025. Zooko Wilcox, co -founder and former executive director of Electric Coin Company (the company behind the development of ZCash), referred to this announcement in the social network X. «Reesk, safer and better» base code than «inherited from Satoshi Nakamoto.»

Zooko Wilcox-O'Hearn, co-founder and former executive director of Electric Coin Company The ZCASHD software has served as the backbone for the complete nodes and the ZCash Wallets. Its replacement consists of two new components: Zebrad, designed for complete nodes, and Zallet, focused on zec wallets. ZCASHD users Version 6.2.0 or higher must add a specific configuration line (I-AM-Aware-CCASHD-WILL-BE-REPLACED-BY-EZEBRAD-AND-ZALLET-IN-2025 = 1) To point out that they are aware of the announced change. The ZCASH statement also warns that some JSON-RPC methods, used to interact with the software, may require modifications or may not be compatible in the new code. ZCash urges the community to provide information about the use they give today to these methods. This process can be done through a spreadsheet available on your support site. The team emphasizes the importance of this collaboration for a fluid transition.

Implications for the ZCash community

ZCASHD withdrawal has significant implications for users and developers that depend on the current ZCASH infrastructure. Nodes and portfolio users must update their systems and, in some cases, adapt their applications to guarantee compatibility with Zebrad and Zallet. Cryptonotics reported this week that ZEC runs the risk of being withdrawn from Binance, the most relevant cryptocurrency exchange today. However, the approach in updating its technical infrastructure demonstrates the determination of ZCASH to stay at the forefront in the cryptocurrency space, especially with regard to privacy, one of its distinctive characteristics thanks to technologies such as ZK-Snarks.
