Western Union launched its US Dollar Payment Token (USDPT) stablecoin today, May 4, 2026. The asset lives on the Solana network and is issued by Anchorage Digital Bank, a financial institution with federal bank status in the United States. As BitcoinDynamic has reported, USDPT is backed by US dollars and was designed to integrate into Western Union payment systems. The company seeks to use USDPT as an efficient settlement layer for partners, agents and future consumer-facing services.

Western Union also reported that it is working on a digital asset network to connect exchanges and authorized custodians with its global payments and liquidity infrastructure. In addition, it plans to launch Stable by Western Union, a payment platform for consumers in more than 40 countries, in 2026. One of the central objectives will improve settlement between Western Union and its global agents. By using USDPT, the company hopes to enable near-instant payments, available 24 hours a day, and reduce idle balances within its network. With this initiative, Western Union seeks to position USDPT as an alternative for international payments and settlements, in competition with traditional systems such as the SWIFT networkthe system that Western Union currently uses to settle transactions with its agents globally.
