Barcelona Economy Week (BNEW) returns for the fifth consecutive year to Barcelona between October 7 and 10. The congress aims to put Barcelona at the center of the new industry 4.0 economy. The presentation took place this Thursday in the DFactory building and was given by the special delegate of the State to the Barcelona Free Trade Zone Consortium (CZFB), Pere Navarro, and its director, Blanca Sorigué. “The BNEW is the only event that is not sectoral, but multisectoral. Barcelona is the ideal city to develop it because we have great potential in the fields of health, research and technology,” claimed Navarro. The fair will give a central role to the application of Artificial Intelligence in sectors such as mobility, health, sustainable tourism or the digital industry. In addition, it will open the debate on its regulation in the market. “When a technology this disruptive lands suddenly it can generate uncertainty, which is why we open ourselves to analyzing what regulation should be like,” said Sorigué. He also stressed the need for companies to talk to each other about issues such as data sovereignty and female empowerment in the digital industry. The most anticipated moment of the presentation was the announcement of this year's big news. In its fifth edition, the BNEW has opted for the aviation sector within the framework of the development of space tourism, sustainability or the increase in travel. “We have decided to include aviation because it is a sector that represents 9% of the GDP,” he explained. Navarrese. The congress will focus not only on aviation, but also on the tourism sector and how innovation and environmental preservation play a fundamental role in the development of both activities. The BNEW organization has estimated an influx of at least 15,000 attendees, 106 invited countries, 350 speakers and more than 1,500 registered start-ups. There will be an awards ceremony for these companies on October 9 at 7:00 p.m. Furthermore, this edition differs from the previous ones by being practically entirely face-to-face, since only 20% will attend electronically. The Observatory of the New Economy has published a study within the framework of the BNEW in which it analyzes the activity of the emerging companies. A revealing fact is that 18% of these business initiatives plan to invest between 100,000 and 500,000 euros in big data next year. Another fundamental axis of the fair is connectivity. 58% of these companies collaborate on open innovation issues with other sectors. Navarro concluded the presentation with a mention of the BNEW Experience, a way of sharing all technological knowledge with cultural, gastronomic and art spaces. The fair will begin on Monday, October 7, with the presentation of the Minister of Industry and Transport, Jordi Hereu, the Minister of Business and Work, Miquel Sàmper, and the councilor of Barcelona City Council Jordi Valls.
