Shopping week on Wall Street: the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq renew highs

Wall Street closed with a mixed sign this Friday (Dow Jones: -0.31%; S&P 500: +0.29%; Nasdaq: +0.89%) after the S&P 500 and Nasdaq closed April at all-time highsdriven by a solid earnings season and the good tone of the technology sector. In this session, both indices have revalidated this milestone. In it weekly calculationthe indices have ended with a positive balance. Thus, the Nasdaq has advanced 1.12%, followed by S&P 500which has revalued by 0.91% and Dow Joneswhich has added 0.55%. This, after a strong rebound in the previous dayin which the Dow Jones added 790 points, 1.62%, while the S&P 500 advanced 1.02% and closed for the first time above 7,200 points. The Nasdaq, for its part, rose 0.89%. Both the S&P 500 and the technology index marked new all-time closing highs. In the whole of April, The S&P 500 appreciated 10.4% and the Nasdaq 15.3%, both signing their best month since 2020while the Dow Jones gained 7.1%, its biggest monthly rise since November 2024.
Among the leading values, Apple is up 3.28% after presenting quarterly results that exceeded forecasts in revenue and profit, although with iPhone sales below expectations for the second time in three quarters.
The good performance of the market so far this year has been supported by the strength of business results and by the expectations of less geopolitical tension in the Middle East. Despite the initial impact of the conflict between the United States and Iran, the main indices are now trading clearly above the levels with which they began 2026.
Ahead of the session, investors have been awaiting the publication of new business results, with companies such as Chevron, ExxonMobil, Colgate-Palmolive, Estee Lauder either CBOE Global Markets rendering accounts before the opening, as well as the April manufacturing data (PMI and ISM), which have remained in expansion territory. From Barclays, the head of US equity strategy, Venu Krishna maintains a constructive vision on the marketsupported by the prospects for economic growth and the strength of the technology sector, although it warns of the possibility of a short-term pause after the intensity of the recent rally.
However, this Friday duty have once again gained prominence. And the president of the United States, donald trumphas threatened to increase tariffs on cars and trucks in the European Union (EU) to 25% because, according to him, the community club is not complying with the commercial agreement signed between both parties.

OTHER MARKETS

The euro is exchanged at 1.1718 dollars (-0.10%). Oil has fallen after Iran presented a new proposal to the US. Brent has lost 1.88% ($108.32) and West Texas has lost 2.94% ($102.06). Gold has lost 0.10% ($4,626) and silver has risen 2.74% ($76.05). The yield on the 10-year American bond has eased to 4.382%. Bitcoin is trading at $78,400 and Ethereum is trading at $2,305.
