President Jair Bolsonaro held a test meeting in the “metaverse” with the Minister of Communications, Fábio Farias, who was in the United States this Friday (5).

Virtual reality glasses were used during the meeting, where the gaming market and its relevance to Brazil were discussed. Anatel’s president, Carlos Baigorri, was also present virtually, while he was in Silicon Valley, USA.

According to Bolsonaro, the government from the beginning has been engaged in reducing or zeroing taxes on equipment used by gamers in the country. In addition, Bolsonaro said he believes that 5G will put Brazil at the forefront of new technologies, benefiting not just gamers, but the entire population.

Even today, Cointimes reported that the Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM) and Banco do Brasil also turned their eyes to the metaverse. The CVM, in conjunction with Abrasca, should perform a live broadcast about the metaverse on August 15, at 10 am.

Banco do Brasil, in turn, will offer an experience to the bank’s customers in the metaverse of Roblox at the Brasil Game Show (BGS) in October.

The metaverse is an ancient concept, coined by writer Neal Stephenson and first used in 1992 in the book “Snow Crash”. The idea was later addressed in films such as “Player #1”, “Tron” and “Free Guy”.

The metaverse seeks to unite the real world with the virtual through new technologies, both for entertainment and to innovate work relationships and other possibilities. Many believe that cryptocurrencies will play a key role in the metaverse.
