The Council of the Americas (Americas Society/Council of the Americas) will hold its seventeenth Conference of Latin American Cities this Tuesday in Santiago, Chile. The forum is a key event to establish connections with the business world in Latin America, it is organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance of the Government of Gabriel Boric and will feature the participation of leaders from the public and private sectors to delve into the investment opportunities in the South American country. The American business organization chose to hold the event in Chile due to “its stable economy, strategic location and commitment to sustainability.” The Chilean economy grew 3.5% in April and the perspective of financial entities is that in the second quarter a Gross Domestic Product of between 2.6% and 3.1% will be recorded, the largest increase in two years . “Chile has become a center for innovative ventures and investment prospects in multiple sectors,” maintains the Council of the Americas. The South American country's commitment to converting 70% of its total electrical energy consumption to renewables by 2030 has created “a favorable environment for investment and entrepreneurship in clean energy technologies, as well as Chile's highly educated workforce and solid talent pool,” notes the organization chaired by Susan Segal. Chile is one of the richest enclaves in Latin America and a true regional power in the installation and generation of solar and wind energy. In 2022, both energies surpassed coal in electricity generation for the first time in a 12-month period, according to the National Electric Coordinator (CEN) and the National Energy Commission (CNE). The country has become an important protagonist in the transition towards a more sustainable electrical matrix with green hydrogen, in whose generation large volumes of renewable energy are essential. At the forum, which EL PAIS will broadcast live starting at 8:30 ( Santiago time), the Chilean Minister of Finance, Mario Marcel, the US ambassador to Chile, Bernadette M. Meehan, and José Arosa, general director of Prime Energía, developer and operator of electric power generation plants, among other speakers, will participate. .Subscribe here to the EL PAÍS Chile newsletter and receive all the key information on current events in the country.
