This Friday, Ferrovial and FCC Construction laid the first stone that begins the burying of the A-5 highway as it passes through Avenida de Extremadura, in Madridthe companies have reported through a statement. Ferrovial, in a consortium with FCC Construction, will carry out the first of the two lots into which the A-5 underground is divided, budgeted at 123 million euros. The consortium will build 1,720 meters of road, of which 1,300 meters will be underground, within a stipulated period of 25 months.
The newly built tunnel will have a width of 30.75 meters that will allow the passage of three lanes in each direction of trafficincorporating Bus–HOV lanes in the central part. In order to facilitate mobility in the area, two lanes will remain available in each direction of traffic during all phases of the work. The contract awarded to Ferrovial and FCC Construction includes the civil works, service and safety facilities of the tunnel and surface roads for local traffic. In addition, the consortium will build a new roundabout located on Avenida de los Poblados, south of the A-5, to redistribute mobility in the environment after the planned action. This section will be executed at the same time as lot 2, which will be developed by another consortium. In total, the A-5 underground project contemplates the construction of 3.2 kilometers of track, of which 2.8 will run underground. The complete performance will have an investment of close to 300 million euros.
