Boeing studies a possible sale of its space business, which includes the vehicle Starliner and support operations for the International Space Station (ISS)according to 'The Wall Street Journal' citing sources close to the company. Starliner has been in development for years by Boeing in collaboration with NASA's Commercial Crew Programand was designed to accommodate seven passengers, or a combination of crew and cargo, for missions in low Earth orbit. However, the project accumulates many delays and obstacles, with Estimated $1.8 billion in cost overruns.
Meanwhile, the company continues to deal with the strike that its workers started on September 13 and that affects the Seattle areaafter the staff rejected the last job offer from the aeronautical manufacturer, which contemplated a salary increase of 35% in four years. The latest offer submitted by Boeing also included a $7,000 bonus or guaranteed minimum payments in an annual bonus programamong others. The strike, which has lasted more than 5 weeks, is costing the manufacturer around $1 billion a month, according to S&P Global Ratings. The strikes coincide at a time when Boeing is going through a reputational and economic crisis after its aircraft have been involved in several accidents in recent years. In this sense, the company has reported a net loss of $6.17 billionthe largest since 2020, when the pandemic stopped most of the demand for aircraft, represents an increase of 276% from the 'red numbers' of $1,636 million in the same period of the previous year.
